New Orleans DSA: OpaVote Guide
How to vote during our chapter elections, using OpaVote.
What is OpaVote, and why are we using it?
OpaVote is a secure online voting platform that we'll be using for elections.
Election timetable
- Online voting opens at 5PM on Sunday, June 24th, 2023.
- Online voting ends at 5PM on July 1st, 2023.
- You will receive periodic reminders to submit your ballot throughout the online voting period.
- Once the voting period closes, election results will be announced via Slack and email.
How to vote
Here is a step-by-step process for submitting your votes:
Immediately following Convention on June 24th, all members will receive an email from noreply@opavote.com (note this down in case your email goes to spam) that looks like this:
Click the “Vote” button (circled in above image) to be taken to OpaVote’s website. Each position up for election will have a description of the office, as well as the list of candidates and ballot. Click the “Add” button on each candidate you would like to rank, and drag their names around on the ballot to rank them differently. Note that you are free to omit some or all candidates on any ballot. In the following example, the voter has decided to only rank two of the three candidates for the Co-Chairs election:
Do the same for each election on the page. At the bottom of the page, you can submit your ballot by clicking the green “Vote!” button (shown below). At that point, you’ll be shown a confirmation pop-up with your candidate selections, and can click “Confirm” to finish.
Once your vote is submitted, there’s nothing left to do. Note that your vote is anonymous, and live results will not be displayed.
